Remote Job Glossary
Understand the key terms behind remoty.work's intelligence scoring, ghost job detection, and remote job ecosystem. Every term here powers how we analyze and verify listings.
A
- A–F Score aka Intelligence Score, Quality Score, Listing Grade
- remoty.work's letter-grade rating system for remote job listings. Each listing receives a grade from A (excellent, 90–100) through F (unreliable, below 40) based on AI analysis of 14+ quality signals. Grades help job seekers quickly assess listing quality before applying.
C
- Close/Repost Cycle aka Repost Pattern, Listing Cycle
- A pattern where a job is marked as closed/filled and then reposted with an identical or nearly identical title and description. This is a strong ghost-job signal — it suggests the listing was never genuinely filled and the company is maintaining a permanent pipeline presence.
D
- Domain Age aka Company Age Signal, Domain Registration Age
- How long the employer's website domain has been registered. Older domains (5+ years) are a positive quality signal — they indicate established companies. Very new domains (<1 year) combined with other weak signals can contribute to a lower intelligence score and higher ghost-job risk.
G
- Ghost Job aka Fake Job Listing, Evergreen Posting, Pipeline Listing
- A job listing that may not represent a real, active hiring need. Companies post ghost jobs to collect resumes for future pipelines, gauge market interest, satisfy internal policies, or maintain a permanent recruitment presence. remoty.work detects ghost jobs using AI analysis of 7+ signals including posting duration, repost patterns, and missing salary data.
- Ghost Signals aka Detection Signals, Ghost Indicators
- The specific indicators that contribute to a listing's ghost-job risk score. remoty checks 7 signal categories: stale posting (>90 days active), suspicious reposting, missing salary info, very thin description (<200 words), missing apply link, generic contact email, and unverified source. Each signal adds points toward a ghost score.
- Ghost Risk aka Ghost Probability, Risk Level
- The estimated probability that a specific job listing is a ghost job (not a real hiring need), categorized as high, medium, or low. High-risk listings show 4+ ghost signals; medium-risk shows 2–3; low-risk shows 0–1. The risk level appears on every flagged listing's detail page.
H
- Hiring Velocity aka Posting Frequency, Hiring Rate
- The rate at which a company posts new roles, measured over rolling 30-day and 90-day windows. High hiring velocity at a single company can indicate genuine hypergrowth — or it can signal a pattern of aggressive pipeline building. remoty factors velocity into scoring and ghost-job detection.
I
- Intelligence Score aka Quality Score, A–F Score, Listing Score
- The 0–100 numeric score that underlies remoty's A–F letter grade. Calculated from 14+ quality signals: description completeness, salary transparency, posting recency, source reputation, domain age, Glassdoor data, funding stage, employee count, stale repost detection, close/repost cycles, multi-source presence, hiring velocity, liveness status, and salary competitiveness.
L
- Liveness Status aka Active Status, Listing Freshness
- Whether a job listing is actively accepting applications, based on recent checks of the original posting URL. remoty verifies liveness during its daily refresh cycle. Listings that return 404 errors, redirect to generic pages, or show "position filled" are marked as stale.
M
- Multi-Source Presence aka Cross-Platform Listing, Multi-Board Posting
- Whether the same job listing appears on multiple job boards or platforms. Jobs posted across several reputable platforms are more likely to be legitimate (companies pay to post in multiple places). Single-source-only listings from low-reputation aggregators are a mild ghost signal.
P
- Platform Verdict aka Source Rating, Platform Score
- An A–F letter grade assigned to each job source platform (job board, aggregator, or company careers page) based on aggregated listing quality. Platforms known for high-quality listings earn A/B verdicts; platforms with many ghost jobs or low-quality listings get lower grades. Platform verdicts help job seekers decide which sources to trust.
S
- Stale Repost aka Evergreen Posting, Long-Running Listing
- A listing that has been reposted or kept active for more than 90 days without being filled. While some hard-to-fill roles might genuinely stay open, prolonged activity is a strong ghost-job signal — real roles typically fill faster, especially in competitive remote markets.
- Salary Transparency aka Pay Transparency, Compensation Disclosure
- Whether a job listing includes salary information (exact figure, range, or "competitive"). Listings with transparent salary data score higher in remoty's intelligence system. Salary transparency is correlated with listing quality and is an anti-ghost-job signal — real employers are increasingly transparent about compensation.
- Signal Detection aka AI Analysis, Quality Detection
- remoty's AI-powered system that analyzes each job listing across 14+ quality dimensions. Signals are combined into a composite score (0–100) and letter grade (A–F). The detection system also powers ghost job flagging, running 7+ specific checks per listing during the daily refresh cycle.
W
- Worldwide Remote aka Global Remote, Work From Anywhere, WFA
- A job that can be performed from any country, with no geographic restrictions. Unlike "remote (US only)" or regional remote roles, worldwide remote jobs truly hire from anywhere. remoty.work tracks this distinction per listing — it's a core differentiator for our job board.
