Role Title: GIS/geospatial Expert

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging GIS/geospatial Experts to contribute their domain insights to a forward-thinking customer project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. We're seeking current STEM professionals with hands-on experience using advanced AI coding agents, particularly those who can demonstrate the application of these agents in technical, real-world geospatial work. Effective written and verbal communication is essential, as you’ll be capturing complex workflows and describing innovative problem-solving strategies.

Scope of Work

  1. Provide expert analysis, feedback, and practical examples related to GIS and geospatial data challenges for AI model development.
  2. Document advanced technical workflows and problem-solving approaches that utilize AI agents such as Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
  3. Deliver detailed descriptions of tasks where AI coding agents have been used to generate sequences, not merely as chat interfaces, including project context, tool selection, and results.
  4. Evaluate and critique the performance of AI-generated solutions in addressing sophisticated geospatial scenarios like large codebase navigation, debugging, end-to-end feature development, and architectural changes.
  5. Share real-world cases where ambiguity or scale presented unique technical hurdles, and outline how AI agentics facilitated solutions.
  6. Collaborate asynchronously with project stakeholders to iteratively refine documentation and guidance materials.
  7. Contribute to the development of high-fidelity datasets and evaluations for AI training and benchmarking initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated expertise in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analytics, or related geospatial technologies.
  2. Direct, hands-on experience using AI coding agents (specifically Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, Claude Cowork) to solve technical challenges within GIS or STEM projects.
  3. Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical processes and reasoning for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  4. Track record of using AI coding agents for complex scenarios—such as navigating large codebases, debugging, designing end-to-end features, or addressing ambiguous project requirements.
  5. Experience generating and analyzing AI-driven code sequences, rather than using agents solely for conversational purposes.
  6. Background in STEM fields, preferably with ongoing professional engagement in technical geospatial work.
  7. Analytical mindset paired with a passion for sharing knowledge and improving technical systems through innovative approaches.
