Director Executive Full Time
Position Summary
Momentum Association Management is seeking an Executive Director to serve as the senior staff leader for a portfolio of association clients. You’ll build trusted relationships with volunteer boards, help each organization set and pursue its priorities, and coordinate the Momentum team that delivers its day-to-day work.
You’ll be the primary relationship owner for your assigned clients. That means understanding what matters to each association, giving its leaders sound advice, and making sure commitments turn into results. You’ll move between strategy and operating detail: guiding a board discussion about the future of an organization, reviewing its financial performance, and helping the team resolve an issue affecting members.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationships and Board Leadership
- Serve as the primary staff contact and strategic partner for assigned association clients.
- Build productive relationships with board members, officers, committee leaders, and other key volunteers.
- Prepare for and support board and executive committee meetings, including agendas, reports, recommendations, and follow-through.
- Advise leaders on governance, policies, board development, and leadership transitions.
- Keep clients informed about progress, risks, and decisions that need their attention.
Strategy and Association Performance
- Work with each board to establish priorities, develop plans, and measure progress toward organizational goals.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen membership, programs, revenue, and member value.
- Bring leaders practical recommendations when an association faces a challenge or needs to make a decision.
- Represent assigned associations with members, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
Financial Oversight
- Lead the development of annual client budgets in partnership with volunteer leaders and Momentum’s finance team.
- Review financial reports, monitor revenue and expenses, and explain results clearly to boards and finance committees.
- Help clients evaluate dues, meetings, sponsorships, education, and other sources of revenue.
- Coordinate with the appropriate specialists on audits, financial reviews, and other financial requirements.
Team Coordination and Service Delivery
- Set priorities for the Momentum staff assigned to your clients and provide the context they need to do their work well.
- Coordinate work across membership, meetings, communications, finance, and operations.
- Provide executive oversight of conferences, education, and other major programs while working with the team responsible for execution.
- Track commitments and deadlines, address service issues promptly, and ensure clients receive accurate, responsive support.
- Share what you learn from client work to help Momentum improve its processes and services.
Required Qualifications
- Significant experience in association management, nonprofit leadership, or a related field, including direct work with volunteer boards.
- Experience developing or managing organizational budgets and presenting financial information to volunteer leaders.
- Strong relationship-building skills and sound judgment when navigating differing opinions and sensitive issues.
- Experience leading projects and coordinating the work of colleagues across multiple functions.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills.
- Ability to manage priorities across multiple organizations while maintaining attention to detail and follow-through.
- Comfort learning and using association management systems and collaborative project tools.
- Ability to travel for board meetings, conferences, and other key client events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an association management company or serving more than one association.
- CAE credential, or eligibility and interest in earning it.
- Experience with strategic planning, governance, membership growth, or non-dues revenue development.
- Familiarity with Monday.com and association management systems.
Success in the First Year
- First 90 days: Learn the history, finances, priorities, and working relationships of your assigned clients. Build trust with their leaders and your Momentum teammates. Lead your first board meetings with thorough preparation and clear follow-through.
- Months 4–6: Establish a dependable rhythm for client communication, financial review, board reporting, and team coordination. Identify the most important opportunities or challenges for each association.
- Months 7–12: Help each client make meaningful progress on its priorities, whether that is a stronger program, improved member retention, a revenue initiative, or a governance change. Clients know they can count on you for both candid advice and reliable execution.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation: $80,000–$100,000 annually, depending on experience.
- Health, dental, and vision. Two BCBS medical plan options—a traditional plan and a high-deductible option—with a $500 monthly employer contribution toward the plan you choose. Dental and vision coverage are 100% employer-paid, including family coverage.
- Life and disability. $100,000 in basic life insurance and long-term disability coverage, both fully paid by Momentum.
- Retirement. A 401(k) with a safe harbor company match: 100% of the first 3% you contribute and 50% of the next 2%, up to 4% of your salary. Company contributions are vested immediately.
- Health savings and spending accounts. An HSA with an annual company contribution for employees on the high-deductible plan, plus limited-purpose FSA and dependent care FSA options.
- Additional coverage. Voluntary supplemental coverage is available at group rates through payroll deduction, including accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, additional life, legal services, pet insurance, and identity theft protection.
- Time off and flexibility. PTO, holidays, remote work, and Half Day Fridays all year long.
