Why this grade This listing scored 67/100, which is a C. It lost the most ground on pay transparency. See the breakdown
- Description depth 20 / 20 How much the posting actually says about the work, measured in characters of real text.
- Freshness 15 / 15 How recently it was posted. Older postings are likelier to be filled or abandoned.
- Remote clarity 15 / 15 Whether "remote" means anywhere, or is quietly restricted to one country.
- Pay transparency 12 / 25 A published salary range, worth more than any other single factor because it is what a candidate cannot find out without applying.
- Corroboration 5 / 10 Whether more than one source carries this listing.
- Role specificity 0 / 10 Whether the listing is tagged well enough to tell what the role actually is.
Every figure above is arithmetic over the posting itself — its salary field, its text, its age, its tags and how many sources carry it. How the grades work →

We’re seeking a full-time, remote Market Research Data Analyst for our company.
Baymard Institute conducts large-scale UX research studies, sharing our findings through a bespoke B2B SaaS platform that serves 2,000+ retailer stores, brands, and agencies across 80+ countries — including 71% of Fortune 500 e-commerce companies. We’re fully distributed, with ~60 team members spanning America and Europe, all committed to advancing ecommerce UX.
What You’ll Do
As our Market Research Data Analyst, you’ll own quantitative survey studies from initial research and questionnaire design through fieldwork, analysis, and publication.
Our Quant Insights team conducts recurring studies examining how consumers research, evaluate, and purchase products and services online across different industries and focused topics. A typical study takes approximately three months from beginning to end. Once one study is completed, you’ll begin the research cycle again in another industry or topic area.
This means the role combines variety in subject matter with consistency in research methodology. You might spend one study investigating how consumers shop for electronics and the next examining how they book flights, while following a similar end-to-end research process each time. However, a significant part of this role involves repeatedly executing and improving a structured research process.
At the same time, the process itself is not fixed.
Our Quant Insights team is relatively new, and our research program continues to evolve. Team members are encouraged to challenge existing approaches, experiment with better methods, improve our tooling and workflows, and propose changes to how studies are designed or executed.
If you identify a better way to design a questionnaire, analyze our data, automate part of the workflow, structure a study, or even rethink part of our research process, we want you to make the case for it and help us improve it.
Your responsibilities will include:
Research & Survey Design
-
Conducting desk research to understand an industry, its consumers, and the ecommerce experiences we want to investigate.
-
Translating research objectives into clear, testable research questions.
-
Designing questionnaires, including question wording, response scales, survey structure, branching, and screening criteria.
-
Identifying appropriate respondent audiences, quotas, and sample requirements.
-
Reviewing pilot results and refining questionnaires before full fielding.
-
Considering potential sources of survey bias, measurement error, and data-quality issues throughout the research process.
Survey & Fieldwork Execution
-
Programming and QA’ing surveys (we use Alchemer), including logic, quotas, branching, and redirects.
-
Coordinating with sample providers on feasibility, targeting, and setup (we use PureSpectrum).
-
Monitoring soft launches and active fieldwork.
-
Evaluating incoming responses for data-quality issues and determining appropriate cleaning or exclusion criteria.
-
Troubleshooting issues independently.
Data Analysis & Synthesis
-
Cleaning, structuring, and analyzing survey datasets.
-
Conducting descriptive and comparative analyses across questions and respondent segments.
-
Exploring relationships and meaningful differences within the data while avoiding overinterpretation of results.
-
Identifying the most meaningful findings from large survey datasets rather than simply reporting every result.
-
Synthesizing findings across multiple questions to develop broader insights into consumer behavior.
-
Creating charts and writing analysis takeaways that communicate findings clearly.
-
Translating quantitative findings into concise, evidence-based insights relevant to ecommerce UX professionals and decision-makers.
Your role may gradually expand to include new or more complex studies, program management, or strategic initiatives, depending on your interests and Baymard’s needs.
Your Daily Tasks
While your exact workload will vary depending on where your current study is in its lifecycle, most of your time will involve activities such as:
-
Researching consumer behavior within an industry.
-
Designing and refining survey questions.
-
Programming and QA’ing surveys.
-
Reviewing pilot data and determining what should change before launch.
-
Coordinating sampling and monitoring fieldwork.
-
Cleaning and preparing survey datasets.
-
Analyzing overall results and meaningful respondent segments.
-
Investigating interesting or unexpected patterns in the data.
-
Determining which findings are meaningful enough to publish.
-
Creating charts and synthesizing findings into clearly written research insights.
The remainder of your time may involve team discussions, methodology development, documentation, process improvements, tooling, cross-functional collaboration, or experimentation with new approaches.
Who You Are
We’re looking for someone who:
-
Enjoys both the design and analytical sides of quantitative research.
-
Likes taking ownership of a research project from an initial question through final findings.
-
Enjoys working with structured processes and becoming better and more efficient at executing them over time, while offering ideas and initiative to improve and streamline them as needed.
-
Is naturally detail-oriented and methodical in their work.
-
Is comfortable troubleshooting and resolving field issues independently, but knows when to escalate larger problems for discussion or review
-
Communicates clearly and asks precise questions when clarifying requirements.
-
Enjoys cross-functional work and being involved in the early stages of a program.
What You’ll Need
We’re looking for the following qualifications for this role:
-
2–3+ years of professional experience in quantitative research, market research, survey research, consumer insights, or a closely related field.
-
Hands-on experience designing questionnaires and conducting online survey research.
-
Experience analyzing survey datasets and synthesizing quantitative findings into meaningful conclusions.
-
A solid understanding of survey design fundamentals, including question wording, response scales, questionnaire structure, screening, and common sources of bias.
-
Experience working with survey platforms such as Alchemer, Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey, or similar.
-
Experience using Excel, Google Sheets, statistical software, or other analytical tools to explore and analyze quantitative data.
-
Comfort interpreting percentages, distributions, cross-tabulations, and differences between respondent groups.
-
Ability to communicate findings clearly, in writing, to audiences who may not have a research background.
-
Strong communication skills and a disciplined, detail-oriented working style.
You’ll be part of our growing Quant Insights team and will work closely with the Research, Product, Engineering, and Commercial Operations teams, making collaboration essential.
