Healthcare Mid level Part Time
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Medical Biller to support a small group therapy practice in Chicago, Illinois. This role will be responsible for managing the end-to-end medical billing process, from insurance verification and authorization through claims submission, payment tracking, denials, and reconciliation.
The ideal candidate has strong U.S. medical billing experience, particularly within behavioral or mental healthcare, and is comfortable working independently while communicating clearly with practice staff.
Location: Chicago, IL (Central Time)
Candidate Location: Open to candidates from any region
Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20 hours/week
Hours: Monday–Friday, ideally 9:00 AM–1:00 PM or 9:00 AM–2:00 PM Central
Expected Commitment: Part-time for at least one year
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full medical billing cycle for a behavioral health/group therapy practice.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Assist with and follow up on prior authorization requirements and requests.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or delayed claims.
- Review and resolve claim denials, rejections, and billing issues.
- Prepare and submit appeals when appropriate.
- Process and review ERAs (Electronic Remittance Advices).
- Track patient and insurance payments and ensure accurate posting.
- Perform regular billing and payment reconciliations.
- Identify outstanding balances and follow up as needed.
- Maintain accurate billing records and documentation.
- Communicate clearly with practice staff regarding billing concerns, claim issues, and outstanding items.
- Help ensure billing workflows remain accurate, organized, and up to date.
Requirements:
- Strong U.S. medical billing experience is required.
- Experience billing for behavioral health, mental health, therapy, or similar healthcare practices is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing the end-to-end medical billing process.
- Experience with insurance verification, claims submission, denials, appeals, payment posting, ERAs, and reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of U.S. healthcare insurance and billing processes.
- Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage billing tasks with minimal supervision.
- Reliable availability during Central Time business hours.
